Wilseyville

After riding the 49er qualifier on Saturday at nearby Elkins Flat, we were already less than an hour from Wilseyville.  Wilseyville was sweet this year.  There was a ten mile course laid out winding through the trees that got choppy as normal.  Al entered the first race of the day, which was the senior race.  Unfortunately he still had crashitis from the day before and pulled in after a couple of laps.  Eric Mashbir won the race (sandbagger) and still looks like he could win races overall in the A class.  For the A and B race Brian lined up towards the outside.  He got a decent start on the the 300 and started to work his way to the front of the pack.  Rob Zimmerman, Criag Wesner, and Bryce Olsen were all trading the lead when Brian caught up.  He was passing Zimmerman for the lead and pinned it across a big field that had some rolling hills and got to the end of the field and round nothing when he reached for his front brakes.  Apparently his brake line had been damaged at the last WORCS race that he broke his front fender in.  The bad part was there were some big bumps that he couldn't slow down for and swapped through some trees.  Zimmerman got his back right after that and then he came back down a hill right to the back side of the pits.  Luckily I was at the bottom of the hill taking pictures and Brian yelled he didn't have any front brakes.  I ran back to the pits and grabbed the brakes off the 520 and got ready to swap them out.  Back on the track Brian regained the lead when Zimmerman's bike began to sputter out and he actually finished the first lap in the lead.  The announcer was confused when Brian pulled straight into the pits and we began work.  I recruited Joe, Paul and Flash to help change Brian's brakes.  Everyone got a tool and took a different spot on the bike and we made a fast change, with Brian getting back on the track in fifth place.  This was the final race in the D-36 Hare Scrambles Championship and there was a tight three way fight for the title.  Rob Zimmerman had a slight lead in the points and was looking for his his third consecutive championship.  Brian Spearle and Bryce Olsen were also close behind and were hungry for their first title.  Craig and Bryce had a good race going for the lead but Brian was catching up but it took his a couple laps.  He finally got into the lead when they pitted for gas but they caught up again when he had to pit the next lap.  Brian retook the lead for the final time and put in a couple of hard laps until he received the checkered flag ahead of Bryce Olsen, Craig Wesner, Brian Spearle, and Russ Pereira.  In the championship Brian Spearle came out on top, followed by Bryce Olsen, Rob Zimmerman, Craig Wesner, and Brian.
