Willseyville After flying out of Vegas Brian and I picked up the box van from the Sacramento airport and drove to three in the morning then pulled over on the side of the road to get some sleep. Fortunately the race didn't start until after the morning senior race. Upon arriving we saw that the area was on the dusty side. Right away guys started to put their bikes on the line. I waited until the position that I wanted to start in was about to get snagged and had a good spot on the inside. Brian didn't like how everyone was lining their bikes up so he had a silent protest and lined up right before the race on the outside. I got a great jump off the line had position on the inside and pulled a rare holeshot. I made the best of it and rode hard right off the bat to try and put as much dust between myself and the rest of the pack. Brian had a good jump but got pinched off in the front turn and settled into about fifth spot. I put a good gap on the field right away ahead of Garrison Gragg and Ryan Powell. Brian soon made his way into fourth but took about a lap to get around each of the riders in front of him. I managed to open up about a minute lead by the time Brian got into second. After pitting at the end of the third lap I was into the lappers. Brian caught me quick going through the lappers and their dust and I didn't have anything for him. He opened up a comfortable gap and took the win, with me a little ways back in second. Garrison Gragg had a great race to finish in third on his 125. The second place finish locked up my first D-36 Cross Country Championship. I have always had a goal to win the series but never really contested the whole series until this year.
