Texas WORCS Brian went out to the first East Coast WORCS race and borrowed a 250 SX from Shane Watts. The race in Texas was the first WORCS race to have regular Hare Scramble turnout. Unfortunately the rider turnout wasn't what was expected with just 250 riders showing up. Those who missed it really missed out. The course was good and like by all. There was some really good single track, some rocky section, and fireroads. Cole Caukins got the holeshot on his KTM 200 and led Jimmy Jarrett, Russ Pearson and the rest of the field around the course. Brian got a good start but tangled with Josh Mclevy on the second turn and was near the back. He made a major charge through the field and actually got into the lead by the end of the first lap. He then pumped up having not ridden a two stroke in four months and was passed by Russ Pearson, Cole Caukins and Jimmy Jarret. Russ opened up a lead of about 30 seconds then crashed on the third lap allowing Caukins and Jarret to get in front. Brian caught up to Russ and made a pass and started to make his charge. Jimmy was out front and was looking to take the win but fell with just two miles to go, getting ripped off his bike after hitting a tree. Brian made it around Jimmy and caught up to Caukins but the checkered flag was out. Cole Caukins took his first major race victory aboard his 200 KTM. He finished the race in just an hour and thirty eight minutes. Brian was hoping that he would have at least one more lap because his arm pump was gone and he was used to the bike and was feeling good. Jimmy Jarret recovered for third, then Russ Peason. These four were in the lead pack all day and put a little gap on the rest of the field. Fifth was everyone's hero Guy Cooper on the big 520 KTM, then Josh Weisenfels, Lance Smail, Robert Naughton, Ben Hale and Steve Leivan rounding out the top ten. |
