Texas Qualifier 2000

For some reason we had to go to Texas in July.  If you had never been there don’t try it.  It was over 100 degrees, humid, dusty, and the ground was covered in Locust bugs.  The promoting club did do a great job of organizing the course so we would not get heat exhaustion, and put all of the special test close to camp so spectators would be able to see them.  The race had three loops that we would do twice each day.  The first two loops were rocky with some trees but not too tight.  The third loop was the clubs Enduro trails so it was tight pine trees.  We would ride these sections each being about 15 miles long, and then be back at the truck for about half an hours rest.  The tests were pretty fast and all of the times were close together.  The first day out of eight test Brian and I finished a second apart in four tests.  They had two grass track that were fun, and a sand test that was awesome, and two terrain tests.  During one section of the Enduro trail I found a big hole in the ground and tried to wheelie it at the last second but my bike fell in from the rear tire to the footpegs.  I had to wait for another rider to help me pull it out or I would have lost it for good.  For the results after the first day Brian was fifth and I was seventh.  We had more of the same for the second day and all we could think about was jumping in the pool at the motel after the race.  Shane Watts was just eight seconds out of the lead after the first day so he put some more effort into in and smoked everyone in the terrain tests and took the overall win for the weekend.  Brian and I had similar results on day two with Brian ending up fifth overall and I was sixth.
