Tecate Hare Scrambles

We got our 2000 KTM's on Thursday, put on an FMF pipe and silences, pro tapers, hand guards, steering dapeners, and Maxxis Tires and it was time to go racing.  We broke the bikes in on the way down in Gorman and headed across the border to Tecate Mexico.  The club had a tight 14 mile loop set up on a private ranch.  We didn't get lucky with the rain so we knew we were in for dust.  The race started down a long sandwash.  I hink Ty and Steve Hatch got the holeshot and Brian was in sixth and I was right behind him in seventh.  There was a bunch of dust so we had to settle down outside of the dust because it was too tight to pass.  We were getting used to the new bikes quickly and they were working well.  At the end of the second lap I started to put some pressure on Brian in this tight section that was seven miles long.  We had to pit at the end of the lap with the help of KTM.  At the beginning of the third lap Brian gave me an opportunity to get around him so I floored it hoping to catch the leaders.  On the next lap I caught up to Luca Trusssardi.  I was behind his in the tight section and I knew there was a couple places where I could make a block pass.  On a big off camber corner he went low so I pinned it in the tight line and the race was on for a break in the brush.  We got there at the same time and neither of us let off and he bounced to the left and I went to the right.  I looked up and saw the trail was on the other side of a sandwash so  I wheeled the ditch and was gone.  The rest of the race was uneventful for both of us, although we did see Ty Davis on the side of the course out of gas.  At the very end I heard a bike that seemed like it was going fast and it ended up being Destry Abbott in third.  Pauld Edmondson took the win, Steve Hatch was second, Abbott third, I was forth, Luca held on for fifth and Brian finished out in sixth.
