Shasta Dam The week before Shasta I was on the road and got to do some good riding. The day before the race I stopped by and saw one of my best friends and riding buddy Cole Marshall. Cole and his Dad, Louie, have been living up in Red Bluff for the last couple of years doing tile work and I haven't seen much of them. When we showed up at the race the conditions were perfect. I was looking forward to the race. When the flag dropped on the long start I didn't get the best of jumps off the line. I made it through the first turn just about tenth. I tried to start pushing towards the front because I saw that Spearle grabbed the holeshot. To my surprise I wasn't making it through the pack like I expected. Everyone was pinning it on the fast course and I was just riding in my comfort zone. I finished the first lap in ninth then moved up to sixth by the end of the second lap. On the third and final lap I knew I had some work to do so I picked up the pace a bit. I managed to move up a couple spots, mostly because of others misfortune instead of passes. Spearle caught a rock in his chain and lost the teeth on his countershaft sprocket taking him out of the race. Craig Wesner was the fastest on the day ahead of Ryan Powell and Mason Harrison. I was next finisher in fourth but was a little disappointed in my ride after actually getting some practice in during the week. |
