Quicksilver National Enduro

The Enduro season starts out on familiar ground at Clear Creek for the Quicksilver.  On our off weekends we usually go riding there for fun so we know the place pretty well.  The enduro is run on a bunch on tight Manzinita trails with rocks that we actually don’t do very often when we are playriding.  You simply don’t find many jumps on Manzinita trails.  We got through the hard part of waking up for the seven thirty start and were out beating up on the brush in no time.  At the 2.9 mile marker G-Man(who was taking advantage of Patrick’s timekeeping) and said that his bike was stuck in third gear.  I told him that’s too bad but we have to go.  We zeroed the first four checks that were laid out on some fun fast trails that were way out somewhere that I had never been.  Brian was pretending to know what to do but had some problems on the first loop getting used to his new ICO computer.  He actually stopped in a test and waited for someone on his minute to tell him what was going on.  They said he was late so he ended up dropping a few extra points.  G-Man did good on the first loop especially because he rode it all in third gear but decided to pack it in.  I ran out of gas with five miles left on the loop and owe Jim Mattewson big for giving me some fuel.  For the second loop it started to rain and get real cold.  We were heading down to the gas a staging area three when a bunch off us got off course because of a wet drooping arrow.  Both Brian and I dropped a couple extra points at the next check.  The rest of the loop we cruised along fast fire roads and froze.  The third loop started out quickly with a bunch of rocks.  Our local advantage is pretty much out the window when we get into the real rocky tight trails.  We got real late real fast and just kept going like a Hare Scramble.  Brian caught me on the trail when I was stuck on a little overshoot to a trail.  When we got to the major reset halfway into the loop it just got us barely back onto time.  Brian and I hooked up together and rode the rest of the race following each other just like we do on the weekends down at the Creek.  We kept raging for another ten miles when we got to the last check.  I was left off of the results but I think I was fourth with a 58.  Brian was listed in the results at fifth but will drop back to sixth when they are corrected.
