Prairie City

The district 36 Hare Scramble Series round took place at Prairie City.  Since we haven't had any rain yet this year in California dust was going to be bad.  Prairie City can be scary when it is dry.  It was mined long ago and now there remains many piles of dirt with round river rocks in them.  In the dust you can drop off a mound without knowing it until you crash to the bottom.  Many riders have tales of this happening so most know to go slow and learn the course until you learn what's up next then start to go faster and find rhythm sections through all of the bumps.  Luckily the club put a lot of effort into watering the course and knocked the dust down quite a bit.  Most of the first four miles were watered which helps the racers when they need it most, right off the start when you are all bunched up.  Brian grabbed a big holeshot on the 300 KTM on the straddle the front wheel start.  They went straight for the little moto track below the parking lot.  About halfway around a worker pointed Brian off the course but that led him to a different part of the track.  He then saw he was headed for where he started on the track as the second wave was charging towards the track.  Brian turned around but when that happens the guy who was in first in now last as everyone turns around.  The racers found the unmarked course and made there way off.  Bryce Olsen got into the lead followed by Rob Zimmerman, Brian Spearle, Criag Wesner, and the rest of the pack.  Brian was trying to get though the dust and now upset of going from first to last.  He started trying a little to hard and started to have stupid things happen to him.  He crashed a couple of times, overshot a turn, and ate lots of dust.  At the conclusion of the first lap he was up to sixth position.  Brian continued to work his way up and moved into second about halfway though the race.  Bryce was leading and hoping to win his first race and was doing a good job of holding Brian off.  Brian waited for an opportunity to pass and finally picked his spot.  Right before getting to his planned spot to pass Brian tangled with a lapper and went down.  That got him mad again and he caught up to Bryce.  This time he managed to get right next to him and wrestled his way by. Bryce stuck close to him for the rest of the race for a strong second place.  Robbie Zimmerman finished third in the race.  He was a few points down from Brian Spearle before the race but Spearle DNF'd with a broken throttle cable and lost his points lead in the process.  Jeff Bauer finished fourth, followed by Ray Geimer, and the G Brothers own G-Man.  G-Man raced the vet class and after pulling a "Brian" on the start, stalling your running bike as the others race off, he came all the way back to 6th overall after starting in the second row on his new 525 KTM.
