Pismo Dunes Race

When I heard that there was going to be a race at Pismo I was excited and knew I had to go.  I heard that the big race was going to be a team race so I called Bryce Olsen and asked if he wanted to race with me.  He agreed until Kurt Caselli asked him to be partners.  I told Bryce to go ahead and race with Caselli, I would ride Ironman.  I borrowed Brian's four wheel drive truck for the trip and after stopping in at Moore and Sons for a valve adjustment we were on our way.  Upon arriving the course looked awesome.  The club ribboned and staked off both side of a nine mile course thru the dunes.  I took Brian's truck out in the dunes to scout out the course and have some fun. His truck 4 byed good and I got a chance to see some of the course and get used to the sand.  Unfortunately the turnout for this race wasn't that strong.  At the start of the race I got off to a good start behind Caselli and one other guy.  He fell after a few turns and Caselli was gone.  The course was awesome!  It was fast and had big sweeping corners.  There were a couple of rough sections but for the most part it was smooth.  There was some big old berm shots and after learning the course a bit there were a few dunes that could be jumped.  I rode by myself in second place until I noticed that Caselli and Olsen had some bike problems and then I rode around by myself in first for the rest of the race.  I had a great time but wished that I could have raced with someone.  They are planning on doing this race again next year so don't miss out, this race is as good as it gets.
