Mt. Morris GNCC

A warm and dry day provided plenty of problems for all the pro racers at the Mt. Morris GNCC.  It was really dusty this weekend with deep silt berms in the corners and covering up dried ruts and roots from years before.  The combination of the tough course and deep dust made problems for both the riders and the bikes.  The Suzuki's got ahead early again with Rodney Smith leading the charge ahead of Kiedrowski and Hatch.  Andrews, Jenks, Lafferty, and Hawk all were lined up next with Brian next in eighth.  About the second and third laps most of the bikes were starting to clog up because of the dust and most of the pros slowed and had to make air filter changes.  This helped Brian and his KTM as the two of them moved up the field to the third spot.  Barry Hawk was pumped up at his home track once again and took the lead.  Brian had been near him most of the race and when Andrews was pulled into the pits changing his filter Brian motored into second with two laps to go.  He said he was riding steady but he came out of a choppy rutted turn on a little wheelie he clipped a tree with his hand guard and shot him off the trail and into a bunch of trees.  He knocked himself out and woke to Mark Hyde asking if he was alright.  It must of been an interesting conversation for the helmet cam and hopefully it will make the TV show.  Brian had to pop his shoulder back in and get a ride back to the truck.  He went in for X-Rays that night and didn't break anything but is so sore he can't really move.  Barry Hawk held on for the win a minute and a half ahead of Fred Andrews and Rodney Smith.  This third place moves Rodney into the points lead for the championship one point ahead of Jason Raines who was unable to finish this week with his injured leg.  Hatch, Kiedrowski, and Jenks were next ahead of Lafferty in seventh who is just coming back from an injured shoulder.  He was up to fourth when his rear brake went out forcing him to replace the system midrace.  Chuck Woodford, enduro specialist David Lyke, and Randy Hawkins rounded out the top ten.
