Milfield Hare Scramble/ GNCC

This race in Ohio served as both a Hare Scramble and a GNCC which meant it was really important to Brian.  Brian and Fred Andrews are in a hot race for the Hare Scrambles championship and Brian sits in 8th in the GNCC points.  In the GNCC points series points leader Jason Raines broke his leg at the last GNCC before the summer break but was saying all along he would be at Milfield.  Second in points was Lafferty and thought had a good shot at the title before a crash at the KTM dealer show left him with a broken shoulder and will most likely be out for the rest of the season.  Behind them it looked as if Rodney Smith who was a ways back in third had the best shot at the title and had to put his summer vacation on hold and do some serious training for a run at his third GNCC championship.  Now onto the race.

Chuck Woodford got out front early and opened up a reported two minute lead over the rest of the pack on the first lap.  It was supposed to be even dustier than last year, and the promoters shortened the race by a lap to make the  event more enjoyable and safer for the racers.  Brian made some early passes and left the motocross track in about the eighth spot.  He saw Fred Andrews crashed on the side of the trail, which motivated him having his main rival behind him at Fred's home race.  Brian settled into the seventh spot until Fred made a strong charge and caught him on the motocross track.  They came together leaving the motocross track and Fred went down once again.  Fred wasn't done yet and caught and passed Brian a lap later.  Chuck rode flawless all day and took his second career GNCC victory in a convincing fassion.  Team Suzuki finished next with Rodney Smith placing second and getting back into the championship picture.  His teammates of Steve Hatch and Mike Kiedrowski were next.  Doug Blackwell has been riding good again and made the top five.  Next was credited to Brian.  Fred finished ahead of Brian but his Dad was riding the pit bike around to the road crossings after being warned not to and was docked one spot.  This season Fred cut in Missouri, pitted outside the pit area at Colorado to save time, and got penalized for outside assistance at this race all while defending his number one plate.  And he accuses us of cheating at Hollister every year if he is beaten?  Barry Hawk rode to eighth, followed by Josh Mclevy.  Local D-36 racer Eric Ducray finsihed 11th at this race and is looking at a top five finish in the Hare Scrambles this season.  Jason Raines finished the race even with his bum leg to keep his points lead.  He was seen limping quite a bit before the race but he toughed it out in hopes of being able to battle for the championship in the next couple of races.  In the Hare Scrambles points with thow-aways Fred is six points ahead of Brain, 151-145.  Chuck Woodford jumped into contention with his third win of the series and is third with 143 points.  It all comes down to the last race in Indiana.
