Ohio Hare Scramble/ GNCC

I flew back to Moline to meet up with Brian at Tim Taber at Fun Mart Cycles.  I had some major problems getting to the race because in Chicago there were two cancellations of flights going to Moline and fored me to spend the night in Chicago and then hit my connection in the morning.  Not long after arriving I was loading up to do a little riding down in the bottoms.  Tim has a couple of tracks set up down between a river and the highway and it is a good place to do some riding.  Homero Diaz from Mexico was in town and along with Brian and Nathan Kanney and Tim Taber we went for a ride.   We had to a good ride going until Homero tried to go through a tree and hurt his shoulder.  It was really good getting to ride back east before the race and to get use to the bike and the conditions.  Friday we race prepped the bike then started the drive to the eastern Ohio region for the race.  The race was held at a pretty cool location and on the way in it looked like there were some good grass track sections.  Upon taking a walk around on Sunday morning through the woods the quads had once again packed the trails to a glossy shine and deepen the mudholes to make things interesting.  At the start of the race Shane Watts started his bike before the flag waved causing Rodney Smith to do the same.  That led Jason Raines and Steve Hatch to start their bikes and take off.  The rest of us just sat there for a couple of seconds when the starter waved the flag and the rest of us took off.  A mile into the race the course came back near the start and the officials were waving us back to the start line for a restart.  After some discussion a decision was made to have the four offenders to start the race facing backwards.  On the second start Mike Lafferty grabbed the holeshot just ahead of Josh Mclevey and Nate Kinney.  Brian and I were right around the end of the top ten.
