Michigan Hare Scramble We had never been to this race before and were very impressed when we pulled up and saw an awesome prepped motocross track. We saw d-36 locals Eric DuCray and Eric Koehler who had just finished the team race. They gave us the low down of the course saying it was short and just 6 ½ miles long. They did say that the sandy motocross track was fun and there was a good fast grass track section out on the course. We walked the moto track and cooked up some Spag with Wattsy and called it a night. The race started at noon so we got plenty of sleep. I got a good starting position for the race, second from the inside with Brian being a few riders outside of me. When the flag dropped Shane Watts and I came together a little bit but I got the better of him around the first turn. On the second turn he got the better of me and pushed me wide. Brian was about in fourth and I was a couple of riders behind him. When we left the motocross track there was a slippery right hand corner that I got my front wheel tucked in on and slid twenty feet before low siding and seeing the whole pack blow by me. Brian was running in fourth behind Edmondson, Watts and Blackwell for the first three laps when he started to feel bad and dropped back. I was trying to work through the pack but was difficult passing in the woods and was stuck behind people too long letting the leaders get away. With the course being so short we lapped lots of rider and I saw local d-36 Super Senior Bruce Kelly three times but he finished and ended up winning the National Super Senior #1 plate. In the end Brian finished in sixth and I was seventh. That put us with third and fourth place overall in the Hare Scramble Series the year. Another local rider, Brian Barrington, did the series and won the Open B class as well as the class win for the day. |
