Massachusetts Hare Scramble

For the race in Massachusetts we knew it was going to be rocky going into it so we ordered up a skid plate form Works Enduro Rider and also got a Eline pipe guard by Pirie Composites.  Brian flew out on Wednesday but it was a long drive up to Long Island but he got there early enough to have a couple days of riding in the rocks to get ready for the race.  More than any other race in the country it helps to ride rocks before going to a New England event or you are going to get to the first boneyard and flounder.

The start of the race was in a little sand pit and the Kawi riders got off to another with Fred Andrews and Chuck Woodford leading the field early.  Brian got off to a poor start but passed most of the field early in the sand pit.  Fred Andrews had problems early crashing in the first couple of corners and had to come from the back of the pack.  He rode hard to get to the front but ended up crashing and dropping out.  Fred Hoess quickly came through the pack and rode off the the win for the day.  Former Hare Scrambles champion Doug Blackwell had a good race for second ahead of Josh Mclevy, Luke McNeil, Kevin Hines, Decosta, Samual Sampson, then Brian.  Brian said he had a good race with a bunch of guys.  He said he would be taking the main line and other guys would fly by him over the rocks only to crash and do it all over agian.  He said of the guys he was racing with half crash out and the others finished ahead of him.  There was one section of the coarse that was particularly ugly.  It was called "Welcome to the Jungle" and is usually submerged in water.  It was uncharacteristically dry this year showing the riders what they usually go over but don't know it, a combination of rocks and roots, with no dirt in sight.
