Garrahan Brothers Racing

Macon, Georgia GNCC

On Saturday we went to see the Daytona Supercross which is the best supercross that I have seen yet.  The track is really rough and having it in the infield at the Speedway give a good view of the whole track.  Anyway we had to drive up to Georgia that night and didn’t roll in until midnight.  My dad was nice enough to get up a six the next morning along with the WER rider pit crew of Milt, Doug, Lindsay, and Jimmy so we could get a good pit spot and we could get a couple more hours of precious sleep.  We got up about nine and jumped in the rent a car and saw arrows marked “Paradise” so we followed them out to the country.  Forty minutes later we pull into a race and noticed a bunch of quads riding around.  Wd thought something looked weird and found out we were at a local quad race called Paradise Springs not Paradise Park.  It was now 11 o’clock and we were an hour from where the race was that was schedule for one.  We hauled to the right to the GNCC and found out that they were running late and didn’t start until 2:30 so we were worried for nothing.  Brian wasn’t planning on racing because he was so sick but we bugged him long enough that he signed up minutes before the start of the race.  This race was held at one of the most amazing riding areas I have seen yet with rolling grass hills, a supercross track, and one of the motocross tracks I have ever seen.  For once Brian and I both drew good start numbers so we were lined up on the inside.  Brian got a great start and was up in the top five.  I had one of the worst jumps off the line that I could get but being on the inside helped and I was around fifteenth.  We got into some really tight stuff right off the bat any everyone just went really slow in a single file line to we got to the open areas where everyone dropped the clutch and dragged raced to the next woods section.  I managed to make a couple early passed and was in tenth after the first lap with Brian feeling horrible and dropping right behind me in eleventh.  I hooked up with Blackwell and got a really good pace going.  The course was fun, actually the first GNCC course that I really have liked.  The dirt was sort of sandy and with the overnight rains it was in great shape.  There were also some really tight woods that we would do for a mile or so then hit some faster terrain then back to the woods.  The motocross track ended up being as much fun as it looked and we both wish we could go back and just ride it. Brian hooked up with Randy Hawkins and spent most of the race dicing with him.  I caught up to Barry Hawk and passed him right before I gassed for the second time but I passed him again and finished in eighth.  Brian soldiered through and managed to get 11th even while feeling so bad.
