LACR Big 6 Brian and I went down to the first round of the Big 6 series with G-Man to check out how the these races are. When we managed to get though the sign-up line we walked some of the track and found out that it was still frozen. It had been watered the day before and the water was frozen in puddles around the track. There was someone out there trying to prepare the track but he just had the scraper down on the ground bouncing along the icy track. We couldn't help but just laugh at the poor guy. The track did look alright though, even though the dirt could have been awesome if they would have disked it up instead of just scraping the top and watering it. Just as we were walking it the announcer gave us the word that the first unclassified race was going to be starting an hour late so the ground thaws out. We lined up for the unclassified race and were stuck in the third row, which didn't bother us too much because we really just wanted to learn the track and use the race as practice for the team race later in the day. G-Man started in the second row and got a pretty good start on his TM. When our line went off Brian and I got into second and third behind Johnny Campbell. The moto track was pretty fun and after it we jumped onto the drag strip where we found out that we were geared way too low as Campbell just took off from us. At the end of the pavement we had the off road section that was all of four corners then we jumped back on the drag strip for about 3/4 of a mile, wide open. We had few turns on pavement and then went back onto the motocross track. Brian had a good crash about half way through high siding on a slick corner. I caught up to G and we hooted and hollered at each other for a whle. At the end of the race G was making fun of Brian saying that he worked him. Before the team race we did some work on my bike getting it ready for the team race. We put on the new Maxxis IT tire since the pavement sections were hard on tires. We also geared the bike up, way up from a 14-50 to a 15-46. G-Man hooked up with Craig Wesner who just made it down for the team race. Brian was going to start the team race for us. When the flag dropped everyone took off and Brian stalled the bike on a live engine start. He pinned it when he got it going and worked his way up to sixth place. Un fortunately that was about as far a we would get. We caught up to the Campbell/ Hengveld team and we would catch them on the dirt but they would pull from us on the pavement. Up front Myers and Tilley were leading the way. The had a decent lead on RJ Thompson. Curt Caselli was flying and even got into the lead on the second lap but then had a crash on the end of the drag strip and ripped off his clutch pearch. Brian and I stayed in sixth for the rest of the race. We left town that night and headed for the creek for a nice Sunday ride.
