Indiana Hare Scramble With the title on the line, Fred Andrews, Chuck Woodford, and Brian were all very determined to win the race. However Doug Blackell got the jump on the field at the start of the race. Doug likes the track in Indiana a lot and always does good there. Woodford, Watts, Andrews and Brian were in the pack behind Doug, all looking to move up. The conditions were good after the first rains of the season finally got rid of the dust and heat of summer. The track in Indiana is laid out on an old mining area that was dredged. This left a a series of dirt mounds from the channels the machine carved. The trail either goes along the ridges on the mounds, follows the bottom channel, or goes up and down across the mounds. At the midway point Watts had to drop out of the picture with his still healing wrist giving him problems. Doug held his lead over Woodford, with Andrews and Brian not to far behind. On the last lap Doug made a mistake in a mud hole with a lapper and got stuck long enough for Woodford and Andrews to get by. Brian came to the mudhole as Doug was taking off and finished behind him in fourth. With the win Cuck Woodford moved into second in the series behind Fred Andrews who won his second consecutive Hare Scrambles Championship. Brian finished third in the Hare Scrambles Series again after leading up till this last race. Doug Blackwell paced fourth in the series after taking the series up partway though the year. Eric DuCray finished ninth in the race to earn fifth in the championship.
