Honey Lake This year honey lake was earlier than in years past. Early summer would give us no rain but nice weather. The track was better than last years moto oriented track. This year in addition to the awesome moto track were three different off road sections. The off road sections were rocky and technical and even had some waterfall sections. Shane Watts and Nathan Kinney came out from the east to make their only appearance at a WORCS race for the year. We all signed up for the 250 race at 9:30 on Saturday. None of us got off to very good starts and we were all close for the first couple of laps. Nathan Kanney did the best out of all of us and finished in sixth. We got a good idea of the course for Sunday and liked it even though we each thought it was going to be hart to place well because the race was moto oriented and the pace would be so fast right from the drop of the gate. There was a little different procedure for lining up for Sundays race. After the top ten were seated there was a free for all for the rest of the gate positions. Honey Lake has one of the most fair starts on the planet. There is a long uphill straightaway that starts to drift left before a wide tight right hander. I got a great jump off the gate and was up in the top ten. The pace was fast- too fast for me and I got passed by a few guys. About the second lap Brian, Nate, and Shane all caught me about the same time. The four of us rode together for a few laps until I started to get tired and dropped off their pace. Up front Nathan Woods had control of the race buy Ty Davis was pushing to keep his two year win streak in tack at Honey Lake. Local Pro motocrosser Rusty Holland was running third ahead of Bobby Bonds, Russ Pearson, and Destry Abbott. Shane was charging better as the race wore and and pulled up into the top ten. He raced with Bryce Olsen for much of the race which is very impressive for Bryce. Brian had a bad crash before the halfway point and dropped back to right in front of me. He got going again and put his head down trying to pass the guys he already had got around once. Nathan Woods held on to take his fourth consecutive WORCS win ahead of a frustrated Ty Davis, with Bobby Bonds finishing off the podium. Shane rode hard and finished in seventh, Bryce was tenth, Brian 11th, Nate 12th, and I came in 16th. |
