Hollister D-36 Hare Scrambles

Going into the race I was feeling confident riding good lately and I know Hollister fairly well.  I got to the race a little early to work with Motodoc in order to get me ready to race.  The start was at the same place as the National but went straight out to the end of  the motocross track.  When the shotgun went off I got a good jump and went into the first corner in second place behind Jeriah Gurley.  The course went backwards on  the motocross track then out the same way as the National.  I pushed into the lead right after going by the water tower.  It was a little dusty on the fireroads so I wanted to use that to my advantage and open up a lead.  Jordan Brandt stayed with me and the two of us opened a little gap on the field.  About a mile in the course went right off a fireroad, I overshot the corner by about 100 feet and Jordan got by me as I was making my way back to the trail.  He was riding aggressive and not making mistakes so I followed a little ways back for the first lap.  On the second lap I picked up the pace since I knew where the course went now.  About halfway through the lap Jordan slid out in a corner and I got into the lead.  I was on a two pit strategy for the race so I wanted to get far enough ahead so that I would still be leading coming out of the pits.  Stevie was pitting for me and did a good job.  I filled up and got fresh goggles and saw Jordan coming along.  I got going and it looked like we would be just about even.  I pinned it when I got out of the pits and just got a wheel ahead of Brandt.  I pushed hard and liked the way the course was laid out.  We were running some trails that I haven't ridden in a couple of years.  It was perfect traction under the trees.  I was having a lot of fun out there and rode strong.  When I pitted again two laps later Stevie said I had a minute lead.  It was all good til I came across Terry Miller holding his leg.  He later said that he got hard on the brakes and highsided.  I didn't have any problems in my last two laps and took the win with a couple minutes lead.  Jordan finished second ahead of Brian Spearle.
