Hollister Hills 2000
G Brothers Racing
Steve Silvestri #23, Brian Garrahan #2, Patrick Garrahan #3 The National Hare Scramble Series kicked off at Hollister Hills with perfect weather this year. The first race is always so much fun because we have a brand new bike plus we consider Hollister our hometown track. When the gun went off defending champ Doug Blackwell got the holeshot followed by Shane Watts with Brian right there in the thick of things along with G Brothers Racing teammate Steve Silvestri. Unfortunately for G-Man his handlebars came loose so he had to baby his bike back to the pits. To tighten his handlebar clamps he has to take off his handlebars so he took a long time in the pits. Patrick didn’t get too good of a start and was working his way through the pack. On the first lap Blackwell, Watts, Brian, Fred Andrews, and Paul Edmondson were in the lead pack with Patrick thirty seconds behind in sixth place. The top five shuffled places all day with Brian taking the lead on the third lap when the rest stopped for gas. Brian put his head down and took off hoping to open up a lead right there but it didn’t work for too long. He would have to pit on the next lap and was right back in the middle of the pack. Patrick was having a lonely day with no one around but was having fun railing the fireroads up the mountains and then sliding back down them on a little trail. On the last lap the two former World Champions went at it with Edmondson in the lead and Watts trying to get by. Watts tried for a pass on the motocross track but couldn’t make it stick. Edmondson went on for the win, Watts second, Andrews third, Brian was fourth, and Patrick moved into fifth with Blackwell running out of gas on the final lap. G-Man rode hard the rest of the race but the damage was already done and he ended up with a twenty eighth. We had a great time at the race and were happy that we had a sunny day to start the season for a change.
