Arizona National Enduro We had a big change in scenery for the second round of the Enduro series. After two weeks of racing in the mud we were in the heat and the dust for a desert race preparing to dodge cactus all day. We were going to be running a strait 24 mile per hour speed average all day. The first loop was pretty easy with lots of timekeeping. Hawkins, Lafferty, and Abbott all ended up with zeros after the first loop with Patrick right behind with a one. Brian was in the hunt with a two. Poor G-Man had early problems again this time getting stuck in second gear. He tried to fix it at the first gas but was unable to so his day was done early. On the second loop we had a short special test right off the bat. Patrick was on the pace in the test dropping a one and Brian was in with a close two. We dropped into a sand wash and had a short reset. Brian snuck around the corner a little too early and burned the check. We had one more short test at the end of the loop and Patrick was on pace again with a one minute dropped and Brian came in with a two. Since we had such low scores we knew that we would be riding the famous off camber rock trails and would be late for the whole loop. We were surprised when we got to the first reset and there was no check even though we were late. After the reset we got behind and had about a ten mile test that was pretty fast. Patrick was on the pace again dropping one more point and Brian came in with a two. After the check we went down the waterfall section and hit the last reset. We had a quick check-in and then got late right away. At the 152 mile marker Patrick followed some other riders off course and ended up taking an extra three mile excursion. Brian kept pounding the rocks and ended up the race in seventh place. Patrick dropped from a top five finish down to tenth after getting lost. Well its time to get on the road again heading down to Louisiana to go visit Cajun on our way to Florida. |
