Speed World WORCS, Lake Havasu WORCS, D-36 Hollister, Rhino Land West Coast Hare Scramble

New Beginning

By Brian

The start of the new season has came and gone that fast. Lots of crazy things have happened- some good, some bad, but the G-Bros are still throwing some roost! Patrick is leading the District 36 series, and I've tallied a few wins between racing the WORCS, and defending the West Coast Hare Scrambles title.

After spending the last few seasons racing on the east coast, I'll spend this season out West. I raced the first and third round of the WORCS. The first round was at Speed Way in Arizona. I was involved in a big first turn pile up- I had to literally toss three bikes out of the way to get to my bike at the bottom of the pile! Once I got everything straightened out I knew I had my work cut out for me. Because it was the first round of the series, there were over forty Pros racing. The WORCS pace is super fast right of the start, something I will need to work on. After two hours of charging through the rocks and whoops of the Arizona desert, I finished twentieth. It was a long day of racing. I hate Arizona!!

I missed the second round of the WORCS, but I was raring to go for the third round at Lake Havasu.  I pulled a Paul Krause for this weekend- it just so happened there was a District 36 race at Hollister on Saturday morning.  I could race the District in the morning, load up, and haul ass to Havasu. The traction at Hollister was great. I got an okay start and got to watch the boys bang bars up the big hill at Hollister. Jordan Brandt and I got a good lead on lap one. We ended up having a good little battle going. Finally Brandt made a little mistake and I was able to pull away for the win. The man of the hour, Craig Hartsell, got my trusty Yamaha cleaned up and tuned in. Boom!! Amy and I were off too Havasu. I also had to bribe one of my buddies with spring break beads for an extra hand driving. We showed up at midnight. I was off to bed and Amy and Duncan went out to check out the scene.

I got a decent start and it was on big time. The track was like six minutes and everyone was hauling the mail. More whoops, sand, and rocks. There were four guys with me in every corner for the first hour, with four in the corners ahead, and behind me. I had some great battles out there and really enjoyed myself. I made some strong passes late in the race and ended with a fifteenth.

The first round of the West Coast Hare Scrambles was held at Rhino Land down south in the L.A. area. The course was really tight and twisty with plenty of brush to bash. I got the holeshot- my first one in a long time! I think my last holeshot was in 97' at Flat River Missouri. Its been a while. My race did not go too well. As the defending champ, I was really nervous. I forgot to tape my hands for the race and, even worse, I forgot to put my drink system on going down to the start. I felt like I was jello most of the race. I rode through it to a seventh place finish. The competition was fierce so you had to be on top of your game. I'm happy to get the first race out of the way and can't wait for Hollister in April.

There will be a few district races coming up. I will also be working on some riding schools and personal training classes. Check out gbrothersracing.com. Until then see you at the races.
