Georgia National Enduro Brian and I made the drive across country for the third Enduro of the year in Georgia. We stopped halfway across the country at our buddy Corey's house who lives in Oklahoma for a nights rest before we spent another day in the van driving. We made it into Georgia late Friday night and pulled over behind a building under construction for some much needed rest. We slept late and woke up about 11 and went over to the track. Last year the Georgia Enduro was awesome with good tight trails and long special tests. After the two west coast enduros it was nice going back east for an organized event. It had rained late in the week leading up to the race so the traction was going to be really good, just a little bit on the wet side of perfect. After signing up we went back to town, got a room and passed out. The morning of the race we put our gas on the trailer, put on some fresh Fox gear and it was time to ride. From last year we remember the first section of the race was no fun at all with the section being really tight and there were a bunch of little pine trees that we had to run over. We went right for that same section again this year but this year we had a bunch of mud ruts through the trees that we had to deal with. Brian and I both bogged though that section not feeling comfortable charging hard through that stuff. We always take a little time after going back east getting used to the tighter conditions that we encounter. From the end of that section the rest of the race was great. The trails were good and the long sections separate each riders skill. This event also has a check in at the beginning of each woods section, then between a five and a twenty mile test section with a check out at the end of the woods section. In the end Mike Lafferty smoked us all. He was the fastest in almost every section although his older brother Rich did beat him in one section. Second went to Rodney Judson and Brian finished third with a score of 52. I was a little off the pace and ended up with a score of 55 and finished in eigth place. |
