Georgia Enduro If the weather holds out it’s going to be perfect. It had rained two days before and it looked like it was going to rain again. I was on row 33 and Brian was 34 for the third round of the FMF National Enduro Series. The first section of the day was a tight nasty section of new growth pine trees growing just inches apart. We would actually go straight and just run down the saplings. This section took more points than any other during the rest of the day and Brian and I both tied with a 7:47. Luckily that was all of the tight new growth section. The rest of the Enduro had a check-in and a check-out with some of the best trails we have ridden in the middle. It was all single track with some good Georgian dirt through the trees that was just the right speed. The most exciting section was in between the two gases. Brian was charging hard when his back end slid out on a tree root resulting in a pretty hard crash. He got up and pinned it trying to make up time when he saw me on the side of the trail with my boot off. I was going around another rider when I had a branch off a log break off and go through my boot. It was about six inches long and two inches thick. I couldn’t deal with it so I had to stop and take my boot off in the middle of a test section. I got going right after Brian went bye and we freight trained the next two checks. After the last gas Shane Watts who was back on minute 73 had burned every check bad enough that he caught up to us. I was in a section and I thought the guy on my minute was keeping me honest. He didn’t go away and at the next check I saw it was Shane playing around with me. He rode the last section of the day with Brian. Lafferty smoked us all and lost only 17. Local Alan Gravitt dropped a 23, and Brian beat out Randy Hawkins with a 24. I finished in fifth with a 25. |
