When big brother Patrick started riding, it wasn't long before Brian was
asking for a turn on the bike. Brian raced the local D-36 Hare
Scrambles for a few years, winning many races while working his was up
from the C 125 class, and graduating from Patrick's hand-me-down bikes
to bikes of his own. After joining his family for a trip to the ISDE in Holland,
Brian began to get serious about racing. In
1994, he signed up as a AA at the Hollister National Hare Scramble and,
to his own surprise, got the holeshot! He went really fast ...
until he crashed. He had similar experiences in his next two races at
the Shasta National Hare Scramble and the Loretta Lynn GNCC/Hare
Scramble. That year he was selected for the ISDE U.S. Junior Team,
and headed to Oklahoma , where he broke his wrist twenty miles into the
race. Brian has raced the ISDE seven times, earning three Gold Medals,
one Silver, and one Bronze. He was selected for the U.S. Trophy
Team twice and the U.S. Junior Team four times. In addition he has
finished 2nd in the National Hare Scramble Series two years and top six
five times. During that time he has won three races, the Hollister
National, Shasta Dam, and the Mule Kicker in Missouri. He competed
in the National Enduro series for the first time resulting in a fourth
place overall finish in that series.
In the tradition of Garrahan men, Brian
is willing to work exceedingly hard to avoid getting a regular job. To
that end, he founded GBros
U, offering riding classes and coaching. Brian lives in Boulder
Creek with his girlfriend, Amy, and their son, Ian. In addition to all
things dirt bike, Brian plays soccer, hosts poker tournaments, and cuts
lots of firewood.
In 2009, Brian will race the AMA West
Coast Hare Scrambles and the WORCS. He also hopes to repeat as District 36
Hare Scrambles champion.
